fuck the bullshit media ploy Nas has decided to use for his album title...

yeah, i'm back again. i'm currently debating whether or not to incorporate the use of a word that is unnecessarily controversial into these pages of thought. if i've never mentioned it, i am a huge fan of Aaron McGruder & The Boondocks, in whatever its form. i think i am especially excited about the writing that is going into season 2 of the series on Adult Swim. it's great. McGruder is channeling the universe in such a proficient way. it is highly impressive. i recently came to the conclusion that artists are the great messengers of the human race. artists will discuss, address, and/or expose issues that the average status quo joe will die trying to ignore. artists are greatest when they are free, no matter how offensive it may be to some, to express the shit that is on their mind(s). it has taken me a while to realize this, but it is very true in my estimation of human history/existence.

think of whoever is referred to as a great speaker or this or that other thing: is that person artistic? more than likely, even in cases where you would normally say "hells no," the person is exhibiting artistic/creative talents. take either Malcolm or Martin for example. both were known as great speakers. where is the art & creativity in that? their speeches, their words, their delivery, their voice, their cadence, and any other number of elements of their presentations are all manifestations of their particular creative talent. their talent seemed to be based in the realm of speech. doesn't seem artistic, but it is. Muhammad Ali is considered the, if not one of the, greatest heavyweights of all time. his boxing style is referenced as artistry. Ali is an artist. could go on, but i'm not. you should get the idea. if not, i've already passed my need to move on to other things.

so, back to my internal debate: nigger. should i use this word? why the fuck not? fuck it. if a European or any other ethnicity refers to an African as a nigger, what exactly does that mean? why the fuck does the African respond in such a way? will the European cease to use the word as an insult if it appears that the African doesn't really give 2 shits about being called a name? do Europeans flip out when they are called cracker, cracka, ofay, whitey, pale face, pencil dick, numb nuts, pasty, Yacub, coos, ya-yas, mutants, peans, etc.? WTF! recognizing the historical significance and amount of suffering that has been inflicted upon Africans by Europeans does not empower nigger. it could empower an African to do something about the situation, but it should not empower a symbol, which is what all words are. for the NAAP to bury a word is some stupid shit. nothing else needs to be addressed apparently.

this brings me back to McGruder & The Boondocks. the episode that addressed the use of nigger in common speech is the shit. this episode is crazy and on point. what a contradiction is the word nigger. for example, who in their right mind could possibly legitimately suggest that nigger and nigga are not the same word? i guess nucka is different too. or how about nikka? what about nig? the variations are not much different from each other. do they all have different meanings? if i call an African nigger and the African is not offended, am i likely to keep doing it? probably not. if other ethnic groups began to embrace the word, which is already happening because of hip-hop, does that not dilute or utterly negate the effectiveness of the word as an insult to Africans? i say fuck it. nigger, nigga, nucka, negro, whatever. not to be completely blind, but the word only means what it is allowed by society to mean. so again i say fuck it. now i personally do not intend to advocate this perspective by throwing niggers into every sentence and thought that i express, but again i say fuck it.

if i can call a complete stranger cuz, bro, fam'ly, etc., then i should be able to call anyone of any ethnicity whatever the fuck i want to call them in a positive communicative way. now, there is a caveat to this. if that particular ethnic group as a collective chooses to hold this particular symbol hostage as having negative connotation and denotation, then further consideration is necessary. this does not really apply to nigger though, because is has been used for many years by Africans as a commonly accepted term of endearment, among other things. it is essentially the same as women referring to themselves as bitches. homosexuals referring to themselves as faggots. Latino cats referring to themselves as wetbacks or spics. if you don't get the idea, then your brain is lacking the ability to follow logical thought in some kind of way. not that you have to agree w/what i propose, but if you cannot see the contradiction, then your shit just ain't right.

so, on that note, i think i've made somewhat of a decision, but not really...

make like i should be offended by anyone calling my any variation of nigger in today's society...

PEACE
